Down at The Bike Place Show 2019 there were plenty of bits of new kit and gear that grabbed our attention. There were a number of surprises that really impressed us from the likes of Smith, Burgtec, ION, Dakine and Cyclorise to name a few - dig in!

New colours from Burgtec
Burgtech were showing off their new axle skewers in their flashy new colour that they call Kash, a colour is made to match the tone of Fox Kashima suspension components. A super cool option for colour matching your bike, Kash anodizing is also available on the rest of Burgtech's range of pedals and stems. The skewers fit both Rockshox and Fox forks, and all rear axles. They are priced at £35-£40 per axle and are available now.
Smith Optics affordable helmets
Smith's new Convoy helmet might be a bit of a game changer as a budget friendly trail helmet. The Convoy promises riders a super comfy fit and exceptional protection provided by Smith's Vaporfit and the MIPS liner system. Smith has specced the lid with 20 optimized air vents and have constructed it to integrate with their range of glasses. It comes in four sizes and five colours. We aren't allowed to spill the beans on the price but we can say that we were very impressed by it. It will be available from the 1st of March.
ION bumbag
Ion were keen to show us their new feature packed bumbag. This bag will be perfect for the rider who likes to pack lighter but be assured that they have plenty of fluids. It uses a 2L Hydrapak bladder that fits inside its own compartment - perfect on longer trail rides for those who don't like wearing a pack but still want a good amount of water on board.
Fix Mfg Wheelie Wrench tool
The Fix Mfg Wheelie Wrench is a ultra-slim multitool that slips into a holster that's made to be worn by either being attached to a belt or the webbing on a backpack or bumbag. Don't let their thin appearance fool you, these tools are packed with really useful bits of kit, some of which you might not find on your usual multitool. They come with everything you need, Allen keys, Torx bits, a tire lever and even a bottle opener.
The Fix Mfg Wheelie Wrench Pro model comes with even more, including a rotor straightener, a quick link holder (quick links included) the unit splits into two so it can be used as a longer wrench handle for additional leverage. The base level Wheelie Wrench is priced at £30 with the Narrow Holster at £25. We have a Wheelie Wrench in for testing, so keep an eye out for a review coming soon.
Kali Pace Helmet
Kali have updated their interior liner system with their new Pace helmet. From the current octopus sucker like pads to a more flexible, yellow, cross hatched grid system that the brand claim to provide even greater protection to rotational impacts.
Fork Cork
This is the Fork Cork. The Fork Cork is a neat little cap which turns the negative space of your steerer tube into a very handy storage space with just the twist of a dial. Using an expandable neoprene washer it creates a secure seal that, once installed, it can store money, Co2 canisters and anything else you can think of that'll fit in the space. These can be picked up now at £28.
Dakine backpacks
Dakine had a lot for us to look at at the Bike Space including new bags, jackets and colour ways. Firstly, their new Seeker bag range, coming in 15l and 24l sizes which are both are compatible with spine protectors. They also have a helmet carrying system and are completely waterproof. The new bumbag comes with a 2l Hydrapak bladder and is also waterproof.
Dakine also has updated the knee and elbow pad range. Doing away with their older inner material for an updated, more malleable pad. Dakine claims that the new inner makes for a more pleasurable pedalling experience. Three different pads are in this range, the Slayer Sleeve, Slayer and Slayer pro, each pad offering different levels of protection, comfort and security for the riders chosen riding application.
The Arsenal 3L is a new jacket for Dakine, boasting a fully taped waterproof design. It's made from a three-layer fabric for wind resistance, wicking, and waterproofing with built-in pit zips for when things get toasty. Included is a helmet friendly hood for those properly wet days out. These will retail for £160.
