Hope, the brand synonymous with brakes, hubs and all things purple anodisation, has launched its new RX24 gravel wheelset
Engineered for gravel riders and severe-duty bike packing, the new RX24 wheelset rolls on Hope’s latest Pro 5 hubs, laced to alloy rims. Balancing the needs for low weight, ride quality, durability and cost, Hope’s used a 6069-series alloy for the RX24 rim construction. The product planning team at Hope wanted to create an alloy gravel and bike packing wheelset that could handle heavier payloads and roll larger volume tyres. Here's everything we know.
- 27.5 vs. 29-inch wheels - understanding the differences
- How 26" wheels are still turning out the fun
- Best gravel wheelsets 2023 - fast and furious off-road wheels
Spoke configuration is either 24- or 32-hole, with the total allowable rider-and-bike weight rated at 130kg. That strength rating makes the RX24 wheels deal for large riders who want to adventure independently, over long distances, carrying all their own gear and supplies.
Rim geometry for these new Hope wheels is 24mm of internal diameter width and 23mm depth, creating a stable foundation for 700cc tyres up to 60mm wide. Compared to Hope’s 20FIVE gravel bike wheels, the RX24 has a significant 4mm wider internal diameter, providing more options for riders regarding large casing tyre choice.
Hope assembles the RX24 wheels fully tubeless, with tape, and the Sapim Race double-butted spokes are secured by brass nipples for durability and corrosion resistance.
The RX24 wheels inflate via Hope’s latest tubeless valves, available in 40- and 60mm stem lengths. Designed for adaptability and DIY-friendly wheel maintenance, these new Hope tubeless valves have two rubber seal sizes to ensure an airtight seal, regardless of rim type.
To prevent inflation frustration, especially if you are running a heavily loaded gravel or adventure bike, the Hope valves are machined with a five-way air path, enhancing airflow, even with tyre inserts.
Like all things Hope, these new valves are available in seven colours (red, blue, orange, purple, silver, black and bronze), to match your RX24 hubs – or any other components on your gravel bike build.
Hope’s RX24 wheels are weight rated at 1,780g, for the lightest build option, and pricing starts at £230, for a front wheel, with £350, for a rear. The RX24 SP front wheel is £270 and the rear is £390. Interested in Hope’s new tubeless valves to upgrade an existing wheelset? They sell for £25.
