Marzocchi brings fat stanchions to the Super Z
Before the debut of the RockShox Zeb, the standard enduro fork typically featured 36mm stanchions and came in the form of the Fox 36, RockShox Lyrik and Marzocchi Z1. Since then, brands have been following suit, offering forks with thick stanchions that mimic that of a dual-crown fork and the now 'all mountain' forks. Today, Marzocchi has stepped into the fat stanchion game as it has unveiled the Super Z.

Large stanchions do great things when it comes to long-travel forks, the most important of which is the boost in stiffness they offer the rider. Now, Marzocchi has unveiled its take on the concept with the Super Z and it's designed to combine the strength and support of a dual-crown, downhill fork with the convenience and versatility of a single crown. As such, it dons 38mm stanchions.
It offers up to a lofty 190mm of suspension and, as we know, the brand has a very close relationship with Fox, so it gets the new GRIP X damper that was released just a couple of days ago. The benefits of the new damper are traction at speed and the ability to absorb small bumps and bigger hits while at serious speed. This damper also offers a three-way compression setting, coming with a firm mode to keep pedal bob to a minimum when cranking back up the hill.
There's also an air spring that offers the same level of adjustability that we all expect from an air-sprung fork, and it gets Lower Leg Bleeders that provide the rider with the ability to equalise pressure in the fork, handy for days on big mountains.
The new Marzocchi Super Z is available with travel from 160mm up to 190mm in 10mm increments and 44mm rakes in both 650b and 29-inch wheel sizes.
It's sorted with a 1.5in tapered aluminium steerer and it stanchions feature the brand's black anodised colouring. We're told that with a steerer cut to 165mm and, with a star nut in place, weighs 2,180g.
The Marzocchi Super Z will set you back £1,119.
