New Vortex Wheels from Halo Announced
The newly launched Halo Vortex wheelset is Halo's tough 'enduro' wheel offering. Beginning in the realms of 4x and dirt jump wheels, their range is now extensive including wheels for all corners of the market, plus spokes, nipples, tape and all sorts of wheel paraphernalia.
All Halo wheels are designed and built in the UK and the Vortex wheels are no different. Halo say these are wheels are built to take on the trails of the Enduro World Series so we're expecting these to be super tough yet not too weighty whilst being reasonably wide too. Essentially they are wider, beefier and feature an asymmetrical spoke design, setting them apart from the Vapour 35's.
Using an asymmetric design Halo say they have equalised spoke tensions which should lead to better reliability and increased stiffness. Of course, an asymmetrical design also means an asymmetrical rim shape and Halo say to compensate for the differences in wall length they have altered rim wall thicknesses proportionally to balance out impact forces equally. Halo say they have also cut down weight where it isn’t needed with wheels weighing 970g front and 1170g rear (27.5”) 1035g front and 1235g rear (29”), not super light by any means but what you don't get in weight saving, hopefully, you get in strength.
"They've held up to everything from racing at Tweedlove, shuttle runs in Finale Ligure, the 6 day Trans BC epic, bike park laps in Whistler and EWS competitions in France, America and Canada.” -James Shirley EWS Racer
We can confirm that the wheels are wide, with a 33mm internal diameter they will be suitable for tyres in the 2.5" diameter region, bringing all the benefits that these width tyres come with, namely the ability to run lower pressures and in turn increasing grip.
The Vortex wheels use Halo's own 120 point pick up MT Supadrive and MT Front hubs, with sealed bearings and super wide spaced flanges for increased stiffness and durability.
All wheels are hand built and pre-fitted with tubeless tape, Vortex wheels will be tubeless ready from the box. As standard, the wheels are etched with the Halo logo but coloured decal kits available aftermarket. Wheels will be available in Boost and traditional fitments with HG or XD freehubs, Vortex wheels fit almost all applications of modern Enduro bikes. Boost Adaptor kits and Torque Cap Adaptors are available separately to offer updatable fitment and tunability.
