Pirelli launches new range of Scorpion tyres in the UK
After releasing the brand's first mountain bike tyres back in February 2019, Pirelli has launched an all-new range of category-focussed tyres in the UK. Having more than a century's worth of experience developing tyres for F1, motocross and WRC the updated Scorpion range completes the full tyre line up with fresh treads, casings and compounds.

The updated range features XC, enduro and trail tyres which are available in a range of tread patterns and sidewall options. Each are optimized towards different conditions and riding styles.
The models on offer include the S which is designed for soft conditions, the M for mixed conditions, H for hardpack and R which's rear specific. Then there's the RC, an XCO race tyre.
These tyres come with Pirelli's SmartGRIP compound tech that uses a single rubber compound. The brand says that a single compound can be extremely beneficial when formulated properly and this is where Pirelli's mass of tyre-creating experience comes into play.
Rather than with multiple compound tyres where as the tyre wears, it transitions onto harder rubber at the expense of grip the benefit of a single compound is that it'll offer more consistent grip throughout the tyre's lifespan, says Pirelli.
Along with new tread patterns and the SmartGRIP compound, Pirelli now offers five different casings across the range. Firstly, the ProWALL XC promises puncture and cut resistance from its 120TPI carcass while keeping weight low. There's also a LITE casing in the XC range which is said to be lighter, more supple while rolling quicker.
ProWALL is also found on the Scorpion Trail tyres but these use a sturdier 60TPI carcass for increased sidewall support and cut resistance.
Then there's HardWALL that features on the Scorpion Enduro tyres and this consists of bead-to-bead nylon protection paired with a thick rubber insert over the bead for even more strength and pinch-flat resistance.
Finally, the HyperWALL casing has been developed for e-mtbs. These tyres get even more support from a textile layer around the bead that locks into the rubber bead insert, something that's derived from the brand's motocross tyres.
The Scorpion XC range is available in RC, R, M, S and H patterns with 29x2.2" and 2.4" sizes. They will also set you back £55 a tyre and the Team edition will cost £57
The Trail range comes in M, S, R and H profiles and you can get these in either 650bx2.4" or 29x2.4". These will also cost £55 and £57 for the Team edition.
The Enduro range comes with M, S and R profiles 650b and 29" sizes with 2.4" and 2.6" widths. These will set you back £63 a tyre.
Lastly, the E-MTB line up comes in either 650bx2.6" or 29x2.6" and will cost £65.
