Specialized launches a £3,500 Levo SL Kids e-MTB
While not the first to launch an electric mountain bike for children, Specialized has now joined the ranks of this growing segment of the market with the introduction of the brand-new Levo SL Kids. With 24-inch wheels, Specialized's 1.2 motor, and a 320Wh integrated battery, this electric mountain bike might have you trying to keep up with your little one.

Starting off with a few key details, this bike retails for £3,500 and weighs just under 17kg. It's got a 100mm RockShox Reba fork up front and an 11-speed SRAM NX drivetrain. For the power, it's got the same motor found on the adult Levo SL (albeit packed into this frame with some custom tuning).
In terms of sizing, Specialized says it's 'engineered to fit a wide size range of riders' but it must be noted that there's only one size available. Spesh reckons that it should suit riders between 122-152cm in height which should be from around ages six to eleven.
The Levo SL Kids benefits from a low standover that has been chosen to give shorter riders plenty of clearance, while those on the taller side should have no problems handling the bike. Specialized opted for a 66-degree head angle, stating that the slackened head angle and longer reach (which is 365mm) combined with the short chainstays should offer maximum manoeuvrability and responsiveness.
The bike runs Specialized's Turbo Operating System, something that also monitors where you ride and can keep track of things like battery health. There's also a Turbo System lock to act as a theft deterrent. Paired with the same Mission Control app that the full-size bikes also use, parents can fine-tune the bike's power with adjustable control. As for range, Specialized estimates that due to the smaller rider, the range of this should far surpass the five hours the full-size bike offers.
While it only comes in one size, the bike is available in three colourways. It comes with an 80mm dropper post and children's specific components. It has 155mm cranks, 660mm bars, and a 75-degree seat tube angle. You might ask yourself why Specialized launched this bike, their answer?
"Because we believe kids are the future. And we’re not getting there any faster until these riders can blaze their own trails."
It's worth pointing out that Specialized also shared a disclaimer with this bike, stating:
"Children must be aged 14 or over in the UK to legally ride an e-bike on public roads or space. Laws and regulations regarding the use of electric bicycles vary significantly by geographic area, even within a particular country or state. Prior to your purchase, in addition to making sure your child is ready to handle the added acceleration and weight an electric bike can provide, be sure to inform yourself of all applicable requirements and restrictions, including age restrictions. Always wear a helmet and practice riding with your child in a controlled environment before going on their first ride."
The bike is available now from Specialized for £3,500.
