SRAM introduce G2 Ultimate and RSC brakes - second generation of Guide stoppers

Today SRAM launches the second generation of Guide brakes, with the G2 Ultimate and G2 RSC's the first on the list for a makeover. Toting brake power increase by 7%, a new calliper and mini-Code power, the brakes are aimed at anything from light trail bikes to race ready enduro bikes.

SRAM says the brakes are entirely new, but are evolutionary rather than revolutionary. The calliper is entirely new – stiffer and more powerful they say – but still using the same pad shape and hose connection as the previous generation Guide, meaning familiar installation.
It goes without saying both brakes are four-piston stoppers and will be right at home on trail or enduro mountain bikes and anything in between, plus of course, the new superstars of the show - e-bikes.
That new calliper seems to have the focus set on stiffness with the pad pocket narrowing and connection points around the body bolts have become larger to result in less calliper flex. SRAM says this provides more direct power transfer than previous designs. SRAM says the pad pocket is still open enough to allow air flow and cooling as the pads stand away from the calliper allowing for circulation between them. There are also no longer aluminium pistons, with them being replaced by with phenolic pistons (hard plastic that is strong and heat resistant) which eliminates the need for a heat shield.
Coupled with the new caliper is also a new brake pad compound called 'Power Organic' pad, SRAM says this offers a more aggressive bit and increased power during sustained braking. These pads will be available as replacement pads for current brakes too.
G2 Ultimate
The all-new, lightest 4-piston brake outfitted with every feature and material you’ve come to expect from something called Ultimate. SRAM say their engineers built it with what they would want on the trail: power, modulation, silky-smooth lever feel and complete adjustability, with test riders dubbing the new design “mini-Code” for its Code-like performance.
- All new brake toting mini-code power
- New caliper design said to add stiffness
- A new pad compound
- Pivot bearing offers a snappier lever feel
- Weight - 242g brake assembly, 850mm hose
G2 RSC
G2 RSC is designed to provide dependable, go anywhere, do anything power when you need it. The new G2 RSC is based on the SRAM Code design, so it puts Code-like power and modulation into a mini-Code package. The G2 RSC lever gets an alloy blade, lever pivot bushings, stainless steel hardware.
- Reach and contact point adjustments
- New pad compound
- New caliper design said to add stiffness
- Delivers the mini-Code feel as well.....
- Weight - 255g brake assembly, 850mm hose
