Hope's Pro 4 hub has become a staple in that brands range, and a standout hub in the world of wheels, chosen for its reliability, excellent looks and of course, the freehub's characteristic buzz. However, it's been around for a while now, but today, Hope has unveiled the Pro 5.

To create the Pro 5 hub, Hope has called upon its 30-plus years of experience in manufacturing hubs but has modernised the Pro 5's design to exceed the demands of current and future bike technology. The Pro 5 builds on the Pro 4's success with improvements said to offer the right balances between pick-up speed, load capacity, durability, and drag.
To reduce drag in the hub, its sealing has been upgraded to a zero drag labyrinth seal as well as a tweaked ratchet and pawl system with new springs. Hope says that this not only reduces drag, but increases durability and load capacity.

The brand has also boosted the number of engagement points from 44 to 108, using an offset six-pawl freehub, where three pawls are engaged at any time. This has been done with the aim of achieving the desired balance between pick-up speed, load capacity drag, and durability.
Outside, the hub gets a new profile to increase stiffness without making it heavier. There's also a new axle design that enables the hub to rub larger bearings in a better arrangement to fit modern freehub standards.

While the hub has been tested to work in the worst conditions, it's completely serviceable and rebuildable using only simple tools. Hope promises that swapping freehubs is easily done too.
New for the hub is that it can now accept Centrelock rotors and there's an e-bike specific hub that comes with a freehub built for the greater stresses.
Prices for standalone hubs start at £95 for the front and £220 for the rear whereas wheel builds including the Pro 5 start at £190 and £310 for the rear.
