Fitness on the bike is important to everyone, whether you're riding mountain bikes, gravel bikes or even road bikes but for those who have more riding under their belts, their fitness will already be greater.
It can be tough to know where to start, however, even for more experienced riders but in this video, Ben Plenge of The Strength Factory outlines how best to train if you're new to the sport with a range of easy-to-digest tips while breaking all of the weird jargon.
It's when you're new to the sport that you'll really be testing yourself. Climbs will be hard and arduous, you might not be able to keep up with your mates or you might not feel up to getting that one extra descent in.
Fitness training in a way that's specific to mountain biking can help anyone get a leg up on their riding but for new riders, it'll help stave off fatigue, at the very least, for that bit longer. It'll help you feel stronger on the bike too, so as you develop your skills, you won't tire out as soon as you've nailed that big drop you've been eyeing up. Good strength will also keep you strong enough on the bike so you can keep using those skills, even when you are tiring out on the bike.
So get a brew on the go, this is a vid that'll help any rider.
