YT Industries has announced a fresh update for the well-received Capra. This time the brand's engineers have developed two bikes, both featuring a 29" front wheel. There's also a very limited Launch Edition bike to kick things off in the right way.

The elephant in the room is that with the Capra, YT has taken a slightly new direction with the introduction of the MX and the Launch Edition models. With the two new models, YT claims to have created a full-on 29er that's aimed towards the racer and weekend warriors out there. Then the MX build is aimed towards park rats whose riding leans more towards bike parks and uplift assisted riding.

The MX model gets a 650b rear wheel, making it a mullet bike which has been designed with the intention of blending the playful character of the little rear wheel with the rolling capability of the 29" front wheel. But, YT hasn't just gone ahead and slapped the wheel sizes onto the frame and called it good.

Instead, the brand has designed the MX frame especially to accommodate the 650b hoop at the rear. It gets 170mm of travel at either end too, while the 29er model gets 165mm at the rear wheel.

With the launch of the new models, YT Industries has unveiled the Capra MX Launch Edition, a super limited run of bikes that get a special one-off paint job filled with references to the campaign film and an Ultra Modulus carbon frame.

It also comes with a very special kit list, featuring a Cane Creek DB Kitsuma coil, a mega adjustable shock built especially for big hits. Up front, there's a chunky RockShox ZEB Ultimate offering just as much adjustability. 

Along with that, there's a SRAM X01 Eagle drivetrain with an extended 520% range, matched with a pair of SRAM Code RSC with 200mm Centreline rotors. Then the bike rolls on a pair of Crankbrothers Synthesis Enduro CarbonI9 1/1 with their known front and rear specific spoke tune. Those are wrapped with a Maxxis Assegai at the front, and a Maxxis DHR II at the rear. It also comes with the super blingy Cane Creek eeWings titanium cranks.

With that model, there are Core 3 and Core 4 models of both the MX and 29 bikes.

The Core 4 models come with Fox Factory suspension with the Fox 38 and X2 rear shock and the same Ultra Modulus frame as the Launch Edition rig. Just like that bike, the Core 4 models also get a SRAM X01 Eagle drivetrain with the same brakes and the very same wheels.

Then, there are the Core 3 builds. These bikes get a Fox 38 in its Performance Elite with a Fox X2 Performance Elite shock. The drivetrain here comes from SRAM but it's the GX Eagle shifting with SRAM Code R brakes. As for the wheels, the Core 3 builds run on Crankbrothers Synthesis Enduro Alloy wheels the same tyres like the rest of the range.

Moving onto the geometry, both frames get steeper seat tubes, slacker head angles and longer reaches. A large MX frame sees in a 464mm reach, a 64° head angle and a 71° actual seat tube angle. On a Large 29 frame, you'll find a 467mm reach, a 64.2° head angle and a 71.3° actual seat tube angle. Finally, the former gets a 433mm chainstay, and the latter a 438mm chainstay.

Alongside the release of the new Capra, YT has introduced a new way to order your bike. If you're happy to buy a bike with a longer than eight week lead time, you'll be required to pay a 10% deposit and the rest of the payment will be taken four weeks before the bike ships.

The deposit ensures a place in line for the bike and any order can be cancelled any time with a full refund.

The new YT Capras are due to start shipping later this year with volumes ramping up in 2022 and the Core models come in five sizes, from XS up to XXL and the Launch Edition build comes in sizes M up to XXL.

Prices start at £4,000 for the Core 3 models, £5,000 for the Core 4s and £6,700 for the Launch Edition build.
