661 Comp Glove review

The 661 Comp is a great-fitting and minimalist trail glove that's just right for the milder days of spring and autumn, and the warm rides of summer. The single-layer palm gives great bar feel, mesh panels create excellent airflow and the build easily avoids being flimsy. There's no pad for wiping away sweat or snot, however, so be prepared to drip.

The palm is a single layer of synthetic leather, which is pretty tough and feels comfortable. The large 661 graphic is made from silicone, creating more grip and a degree of tackiness on the palm, while perforations aid cooling.

This colour scheme is called Black Script, so you know, and it's not just the colours that change across the range – all kinds of other graphics are available, each with their own distinct name.

The back of the gloves are Spandura, a sort of mesh stretchy fabric that allows for a good close fit, and it works perfectly to avoid any tight spots or baggy areas. Meanwhile, the area of the Comp's thumb that contacts the bar is reinforced for increasing durability, and provides just a little bit of padding there too. Nice.

I like the cuffless design as it's easy to pull on and off, and there's enough stretch without any bagginess developing with continued use. Using mesh for the side of the finger panels allows plenty of ventilation – this isn’t a glove for keeping warm, but it’ll be fine for most of spring, summer and autumn riding if you're moving.

Like most gloves it's touchscreen compatible on the index finger and thumb, but they actually work effectively. As the Comp is quite a refined and minimalist glove, there isn't anything protective on the knuckles or fingers, which is fine – though the lack of a snot wipe is perhaps taking that minimalism too far.

The 661 Comp is a comfy, well-made and frankly pretty stylish glove that's great for trail or adventure riding whenever the temperatures allow. They offer useful protection for the least amount of bulk and weight that's reasonable, and they're easy to recommend.
