Lazer Coyote helmet review

With its no-nonsense enduro and trail focussed good looks, effective ventilation and tuneable fit, Lazer's Coyote helmet is a good value choice. It offers an increased level of coverage compared to most cross-country lids and it's comfortable too.

Its super clean looks and great fit make it a really good trail helmet, with a good level of head cover and decent ventilation. The TS+ fit system is adaptable and comfortable. Whilst there is no MIPS on this model, you can pay an extra £20 for the Coyote MIPS. It's fully wrapped with an in-moulded outer shell which covers the more fragile foam. The vent openings have a nice rounded finish to the square shapes. All in all, it’s quite a different feel to their older lids and some others in the range.

When I first tried it on, I had no issues of hot spots and whilst not to the level of more upmarket lids the comfort is really good, without needing a huge amount of padding. The straps are light, but are solid enough and stayed put.

The clean line on the brow allows googles to be worn easily and the rear has a cutaway aimed to hold them in place. There is quite a leaning towards the needs of trail and enduro riders, further shown by the larger coverage on the lower area of the head - its a good amount of protection. It’s also possible to mount a rear light on the back.

I found the adjustment dial to be really easy, and stay in place when taken on and off, and it didn’t catch inside when putting the helmet on - something that seems to be more common with cheaper lids. The peak is super effective and pretty large - handy for glaring sun or overhanging branches. The only downside is that it’s not adjustable.

Out riding the fit and level of protection are confidence-inspiring. It also vents well, with some very hot, long climbs being the only time it got overwhelmed. The Coyote is the sort of lid you don’t really notice. That's a positive, but it's going to be very much there when you do need it. I didn't find the Coyote to be too heavy - it does look quite substantial but doesn’t ride or feel heavy when on.

I really like the looks, and the fit, and its performance. It’s got all the right boxes ticked and doesn't break the bank. It’s available in black, white green, blue, red and grey with yellow peak and available in small, medium and large sizes.
