The ION women’s Scrub Amp long sleeved jersey is a firm favourite due to its cool looks and, soft touch material and outstanding performance whatever the weather.
The Scrub Amp is a casual looking top with a slim but loose fit and good length of torso and sleeves. I’m a dress size 8/10 and went for the Small, which fitted perfectly. There’s plenty of room for a thin back protector and its roomy enough at the elbows for slim pads. That said, the jersey never looked baggy when worn without the extra kit making it super versatile.
The top is made of two different materials with the front constructed from a DriRelease® material claimed to dry four times faster than regular cotton. Whether it dried four times faster is a fact I can’t evaluate but it does dry quickly, seldom leaving me feeling a chill when stopped mid-ride. It certainly felt soft against the skin too and the front panel has a different appearance and texture to the rest of the garment which made for a nice contrasting look.
The back and sleeves of the jersey are constructed from a light mesh material, more akin to that found on a regular jersey. Both materials feel robust enough to fend off crashes and bramble strikes, yet have a stretchy quality that makes it comfortable and unrestrictive.
Elsewhere on the jersey there is an integrated glasses wipe on the right-hand side and small zippered pocket at the left hem. We have the long sleeved version to test, which has been improved over previous incarnations by the omission of the stiff badge on the upper chest and what I think are less obtrusive printed graphics. The jersey is also available as a short sleeved and ¾ length sleeve versions in the Hot Coral colourway as you see here but also Black and Crystal Blue.
I’ve tested this jersey throughout Autumn and Winter (and worn previous 2017 and 2016 versions of the top) and found it to be warm when you want it to be and loose and cooling when the weather heats up, a feat that can only be attributed to the quality materials used in the construction of the jersey. It’s my ‘go to’ jersey for all types of riding, perfectly comfortable and with good wicking capabilities with or without a baselayer or under a jacket. If I was being super critical I'd want the neckline of the jersey just slightly higher to prevent some windchill when wearing alone or to cover the colour of a baselayer if worn underneath.
The ION Tee LS Scrub Amp Jersey doesn’t come cheap though, at £70 it’s one of the more expensive jersey’s we have reviewed. Despite that we don’t think you will be disappointed with the purchase should you spend the dollar.
