PEdAL ED Hane Lightweight women's jersey review

The Hane jersey from PEdAL ED is a comfy and stylish jersey for road and gravel bike use, that also wouldn’t look out of place on a flat out cross-country mountain bike ride either. It has a premium feel, a premium price to match and a cut at the lower hem that could do with being a bit longer.

Japenese in design and Italian made the Hane jersey is a thing of beauty, from the stylish arm details to the soft feel fabric, it’s a quality product. At £135 though, you’d expect a superior piece of clothing for your money.

The jersey doesn’t just perform in looks either, the fabric 74% polyester/26% elastane is breathable, wicks sweat and is pretty comfortably, stretchy for a close fit. The fabric is lightweight making this a jersey for hot summer days rather than chilly autumnal ones.

The rear of the jersey features a large strip down the spine is supposed to make the kit even more breathable and work in conjunction with the Tsuki bib shorts which has an identically located strip. As I said in the bib short review I didn’t feel this stip made the jersey any more breathable but it also doesn’t deter from the lightweight feel or mark the jersey down in the comfort stakes either, the seams are imperceptible. There is a similar band around each arm which do a sterling job of keeping the sleeves in place without any undue pressure, again the seams are unnoticeable.

The zip too, is malleable and conforms to the body well, a good thing given the fitted nature of the kit. The neck is well protected from the zipper and the collar sits nicely whether the collar lies open or is fully zipped up.

There are three pockets at the rear which are large enough to contain all you ride tools/snacls/valubles with an added side zip pocket for a phone or car key. The pockets do seem a little baggy when unfilled but the flip side of this is that you don’t need to stretch them in order to fit lots of kit inside.

Cutwise, as I mentioned, the Hane is super fitted and best worn without a base layer. It is worth noting that alongside being made in Italy, the gear also features very 'Italian sizing' and by that I mean it comes up small. Whatever size you think you are, size up a whole size for both top and bottoms. I’m a dress size 8 and wore medium shorts and jersey. The jersey also comes up a little short in practice, the fit works well whilst sitting on the bike but does tend to ride up when walking around. If you are taller in the upper body you might want to check the fit before you buy to save repeated belly button exposure! The thick silicone strip at hem goes some way to hold the jersey down and in place but invariably there are times when the jersey rides up both at the front and the back.

£135 is top end dollar for a jersey, on par with Rapha prices, and although you get a quality item, there are some fit issues that can’t be overlooked, especially if you are taller. If the jersey fits well, then you will have a stylish piece that is light and deals with sweat admirably. It's best for some summer riding or as a under layer in the autumn and winter, although it does seem a shame to hide this jersey away!
