Hutchinson unveils the Wyrm - a trail-specific MTB tyre
Hutchinson's latest tyre, the Wyrm, is designed to bridge the gap between the Kraken 2.4 and the enduro-based Griffus and is aimed towards those who are after a grippy all-weather set-up or a faster rolling rear tyre.

Even though the new Wyrm has been built to fill the space between the proper down-country and enduro offering, Hutchinson stands firm on its down-country capability. It can be run either as a pair or when deployed with faster rolling tyres from the brand's cross-country range. However, Hutchinson says that the Wyrm can even take on enduro duties when inflated on the rear wheel and paired with its burlier models.
Living up to its mythological dragon namesake, the Wyrm is built with a rather aggressive but reasonably low-profile tread pattern and utilises a 66tpi carcass that's been combined with Hutchinson's XC Race Riposte tri-compound rubber and Hardskin reinforcement. The low-profile tread pattern is designed to provide good efficiency and quick acceleration on dry terrain.
It's built with a round profile which is promised to offer a forgiving platform and plenty of support.
The Wyrm's tread pattern utilises what Hutchinson calls a dual chevron design. One of the chevrons has been crafted to boost efficiency while the second is all about traction and braking. There are then small bridges that connect each chevron, resulting in a mechanical linkage.
The tread has been spaced for effective mud shedding and there's an alternating pattern to ensure even grip when leaning the tyre, says the brand.
The Racing Lab Wyrm is available in Tanwall and Black colours and weighs in at a claimed 950g. There's also a standard version that's only available in black and we're told it weights 1,000g.
As for prices, the Racing Lab model will set you back £70 while the standard model costs £43.
