Troy Lee Designs Women's Ace 2.0 glove review

The Troy Lee Designs women's Ace 2.0 glove is a super-thin and light summer mountain bike glove, with a minimalist design we really like. They're well ventilated, work with a touch screen, and give good feel on your grips thanks to the thin palm. They can be hard to get on and off, however, especially with sweaty hands.

The women's Ace 2.0 glove is designed as a breathable, warm-weather glove with great ventilation – boxes it ticks with ease. The thin synthetic leather palm offers a good feel on the bars and doesn't bunch at all. It also gets laser-cut holes across the width and up the fingers, to increase ventilation and decrease sweat.

The upper is a combination of mesh fabric and smooth elastication at the cuff. The mesh is, as you would expect, well ventilated, making these some of the coolest gloves I've worn. Even cooler than the Alpinestars Stella F-Lite gloves, a previous favourite of mine.

Obviously, these gloves are best worn in warm weather. The fine materials also mean there's little protection against scrapes and brambles, so if it's an extra armoured layer you're looking for, look elsewhere.

The pull-on cuff is one-piece, stretching out to lie super-flat against the skin, giving a seamless transition that works brilliantly to tuck under long sleeves. It's completely unobtrusive. In a few months of use (in hot weather!), this cuff hasn't stretched or changed shape at all, which is impressive.

The soft thumb works well as a snot/sweat wipe, while threads at the forefinger allow you to use a touch screen – it's not always accurate, but I did stab my screen less than with many other 'screen compatible' gloves.

I wore a women's size medium and the fit was perfect; slim and without sagginess. Actually, the Aces are so well fitted they're quite hard to get on and off... if you pull them off at the cuff they turn inside out, and they're a pain to turn back the right way. I recommend tugging on the fingers.

These gloves also come in men's sizes and a range of colours for both sexes.

At £35, the Troy Lee Designs Women's Ace 2.0 isn't cheap (the Alpinestars F-lite is only £25, for instance). But if you want a stylish, comfy summer glove that almost feels like it isn't there, it's £35 well spent.
