It's fair to say we have been getting on very well with the aluminium 2018 Transition Smuggler we have in for test here at off-road.cc, so when news hit our email inbox of the new carbon Smuggler, the drool really started to roll....
Whilst we've been enjoying the alloy Smuggler we won't make any bones about the fact that it's heavy for a 120mm trail bike, even our top of the range one, weighing 35lbs with pedals. News of a carbon version with a sub 3kg claimed frame and shock weight was pleasing indeed.
News of the new bike is so fresh it's not even on Transitions website yet but you can take a five minute time out to watch a classic edit from the brand.
We expect geometry of the Smuggler to stay the same as its alloy brother and also run with their Speed Balanced Geometry system which aims to bring the front axle more rearward under the rider to increase front wheel traction, shortening the wheelbase but offering more trail which creates more stability and balances the effect of the slacker (66 degree) head angle. On a medium frame you'll get the critical geometry figures of a roomy 450mm reach, a short 410mm seat tube, short 430mm chainstays, a 1184mm wheelbase and our favourite figure - a 76.3 degree seat angle.
